Battle Report (in pictures) – 50 Pts – Khador vs Mercs

Welcome to an update of this blog after a long pause (both in updating this blog and playing Warmachine/Hordes). I hope to do more frequent updates the coming month, as soon as I’ve tidied up my desk to paint again ;). Due to a lack of spare time at the moment, I will keep this one rather short. Just take a look at the battle impressions and read the captions. Photo quality isn’t as great as usually, cause I used my phone.

This game was played in our local tabletop gaming club last Sunday. The set up was 50 points with no specific scenario. I played against the Mercenaries (Four Star) of my friend with a standard Khador list. Some of the Mercenary models are none PP models but quite easy recognizable as what they are (Steelhead Halberdiers and Cavalry). Roccinante is a Mule. The Mercenary Caster was Damiano and I played a melee-focused eButcher list.

Mercs:

Captain Damiano
Vanguard
Mangler
Rocinante
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt
Steelhead Halberdiers (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Steelhead Heavy Cavalry (Leader and 2 Grunts)
Steelhead Riflemen (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist
Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile
Ogrun Bokur
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord
Stannis Brocker

Khador:

Kommander Orsus Zoktavir
Beast-09
Devastator
War dog
Battle Mechaniks (Leader and 3 Grunts)
Battle Mechanik Officer
Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Greylord Escort
Great Bears of Gallowswood
Greylord Ternion (Leader and 2 Grunts)
Man-o-war Demolition Corps (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Winter Guard Mortar Crew (Leader and Grunt)
Koldun Lord
Khador setup. Mainly two waves clumped in the middle. Doom Reavers on left flank.

Mercenary advancement after first round. Cavalry stands against my Doom Reavers.

Round two. Made a lucky pot shot at the Halberdiers with my Mortar (see the white dice). Killed three.

First engagement with running Steelheads. Lost one Man-o-War by Roccinante's shot.

The Man-o-War have Fury on them, btw. So I could do a lot of damage on the Mangler (cortex crippled iirc). Killed some more Halberdiers with the Greatbears and Doom Reavers.

The Steelheads are blocking my Doom Reavers. Greylord surives Stannis with two successful tough rolls.

Here my Devastator is getting into serious trouble. Rust Bomb and Roccinante AND Damianos feat are supposed to do a lot of damage even on a closed Devastator.

At the end of this third round both my Heavies are gone without doing anything. I felt this game to be over at that point. I was wrong.

The house had a very important role in this game. My Man-oWar could block the right side and do some damage. Butcher used his feat and got 6 rage token at the end of this turn. Steelheads were killed by Greatbears and Doom Reavers. You can see the red squared markers (rage tokens) before they were used.

With the rage tokens I could eliminate Aiyana & Holt, some Riflemen and Roccinante. No cleared path to Damiano, unfortunately.

This ruined all my other plans: Ruphert threw his Black Oil on Butcher. So no intersting stuff in the upcoming turn.

I also lost the remaining Great Bear who was very close to Damiano.

Due to time and round progression, and cause we were pretty stucked in this late game, we decided to call it a draw.

It was a fun game. Epic Butcher is a beast, if his feat is timed right. Even after losing two Heavies in one turn I could do enough damage to stay dangerous. Next time we will play a scenario, I guess. Could have made this even more interesting (and shorter).

  1. Thank you for this battle report. I fire many games played lately that took too long, because no scenario was chosen. Experienced players won’t make all too reckless mistakes with their casters or locks, so the game stalls when the heavies and feats are gone. It was the right decision to call it a draw.

  2. I agree. Next game will definitely have some sort of scenario to prevent this.
